Buying a New or Used Pool Table – Look for Important Clues

Whether you’re buying a new or used pool table there are certain things that you’ll need to look for. Replacing or fixing the problems with them can be very expensive after you’ve gone and spent your hard earned dollars on a pool table for sale. It’s great to get a bargain, but if you have to spend too much money the bargain might not be such a good one. When scouting around for your new or used pool table for sale, keep an open mind but don’t sacrifice your money by not being informed about what to look for. Remember to take this check list along, so you can evaluate each table to get the most use out of your pool table.

What to look for in a pool table for sale:
- Check for extensive scarring or dents and water rings on wood.
- Check for cracked wooden legs or wobbly legs.
- Check to find loose veneer by gently running hand along top of frame and edges underneath.
- Check to see if defects are under the felt by running hand over felt.
- Check for loose or torn and worn felt by placing both hand on table and gently moving side to side.
- Check for sun light damaged felt by getting eye level with table or shining a bright flash light from above onto the table.
- Check pockets to see if there is torn netting or netting that has been stitched back. Also, look for dry cracked worn leather pockets.
- Check to see if slate is loose in table by shaking it gently.
- Check to see that cushions are in good shape by hitting a few balls to see how they bounce.

Costly Replacement Parts

Any reputable dealer, such as representatives from Brunswick, can tell you that often common sense can play a big part when purchasing any pool table for sale. Often it’s more valuable than a check list, but the key is to realize that replacement parts for a table can add up to almost a new lower end table from a quality manufacturer. Many times companies will sell second hand tables, or individuals will sell you a model that is from overseas that is poor in quality construction standards. In the end you end up with a real dunce of a table. Slate replacement can run from $800.00 - $1000.000 for a standard 7 ft. table. Felt replacement is costly too, which can be $250.00 at least, depending on the size of the table, and the quality of felt used. Refinishing of a second hand pool table for sale can run into the hundreds for extensive refinishing. Finding that new or used pool table for sale can be much simpler if you just know what to look for, but remember to always beware of things that sound just too good to be true.
